Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the clergy in offering the Most Precious Body and Blood of Christ to their fellow parishioners during the Mass. New Extraordinary Ministers are initially trained by the Diocese of Orlando in a three hour class on a Saturday morning. They are required to attend a Morning of Reflection class every two years to renew their mandate. The training sessions are held throughout the Diocese.
Extraordinary Ministers are allowed to serve one to three times per month at the Mass of their choice. Schedules are sent out monthly with requests submitted the month prior. Extraordinary Ministers are required to arrive 15 minutes before Mass and meet at the sacristy in the back of the church to check their assignments.
Because they serve at the Banquet of Our Lord, Extraordinary Ministers are asked to dress respectfully. Men are asked to wear a shirt, tie, and a jacket. Women are asked to wear a dress, pant suit, or dressy pants and a nice top.
