Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink.”

On the 4th Sunday of each month, the Feed the Homeless Ministry at Sts. Peter and Paul Church works to bring nutritious meals to the good men and women at the Coalition of the Homeless in Downtown Orlando.  The Feed the Homeless Ministry collects contributions of food from parishioners as well as baked goods from local businesses. Monetary donations are also accepted.

On the 3rd Sunday of each month, the volunteers hand out tins after each Mass to be returned the following Sunday between 7:30am and 2:30pm to the Parish Hall Kitchen.  Volunteers gather to prepare the food and then deliver it to the Coalition.  The food is transported by parishioners who supply the use of their own vehicles.  A prayer of thanksgiving is offered by either a volunteer or one of the homeless men.  TheFeed the Homeless Ministry typically serves over 500 meals and we often hear, “Thank you and God bless you” from these gracious people.

The Feed the Homeless Ministry has over 100 volunteers.  All work to ensure that 100% of the donations go to feed the homeless.  Also, all the members work to treat the homeless with respect and dignity.

Purpose of Ministry:
This is to provide one way for parishioners to respond to God’s call to help those in need. At this end, we in the ministry: collect parishioner’s donations of money and food, (third Saturday and Sunday). use the money to supplement the food donations and to buy supplies, prepare food in the church kitchen and parish hall, deliver food to the Coalition for the Homeless and serve meals ( fourth Sunday).

Description of Ministry:
The ministry is very informal. About 100 volunteers help at various times. Emails are sent out to everyone on the list reminding them that the fourth Sunday is approaching. On the 4th Sunday, volunteers arrive between 7:00am and 2:30pm and help for as long as they can. During this time we;

Make about 500 sandwiches
Cup up cakes and breads
Wash, prepare, and bake chicken, about 400 pieces
Open cans of vegetables and baked beans and heat
Prepare soft drinks and table ware
Load trucks, vans and SUV’s, 2:15 and 3:00 pm.
Deliver to the coalition, downtown Orlando
Unload, set up and serve meals, around 500
